Hillcrest High Families, 

We want to let you know about an incident that happened on our campus this afternoon. While investigating a separate issue, a school administrator recovered a firearm from a student’s backpack. This discovery was completely coincidental, as the issue that was being investigated was not related to a firearm or weapon. The chamber was not loaded, but a loaded clip was present. Our school resource officer and law enforcement quickly became involved in the investigation. No one was injured in this situation.

Because this is an active investigation, we are limited in details that we can discuss at this time. However, please know that any student who brings a weapon to school faces serious consequences under our code of conduct. Please reach out to me directly with any questions or concerns. 

Also, I remind you to please tell a school administrator or law enforcement officer anytime you know of a school or student safety issue. That is one of the most important ways we keep our school and students safe.
