Professional Biography-

After 36 years of working in the furniture business, Michael Yessick embarked on a dream to teach high school mathematics.  Michael completed graduate school and earned his masters of education in mathematics at The University of Alabama in 2011.  He and his wife of 34 years of marriage have two sons, Kevin and Tyler.  Michael’s wife, Rita, teaches English through The University of Alabama’s College of Continuing Studies and Early College departments. 

Michael loves his work at Holt High School and sees it as his calling like a mission of love.  One such mission began when he started the soccer team as a way to pull the three cultures of Holt together in harmony; he also volunteers to help with many other Holt High sport teams in order to engage with the students in after school activities.  After teaching at Holt for one year, Michael and Rita pulled up stakes in the nearby city of Northport and moved to the Holt community.  Michael loves to tell others about his current student academic and athletic successes. He is proud of Holt’s rich heritage that graduated its first class in 1910. 

Currently, Michael Yessick is pursuing National Board Certification in High School Mathematics and an EDS in Educational Leadership through the University of Alabama.  This means a short sabbatical from coaching.  He has also chosen to build his home next to the High School to continue building his relationship with the community of Holt.
