My name is Mindy Walker, and this is my eighth year at Holt High School. I am originally from Pickens County Alabama. I have my Bachelor’s Degree in History with a Minor in English, a Masters of Arts in Teaching History, and this summer I will complete my Education Specialist Degree in Secondary History Education Curriculum. I am certified to teach Social Sciences, History, and English. I have been teaching for 17 years, and this year marks my tenth year serving the Tuscaloosa County School System.
I have a passion for teaching tolerance and kindness through historical connections and lessons from the past. I enjoy taking students on military hikes through battlefields that are a part of our nation’s personal history compared to other countries and global conflicts. I particularly feel led to share my knowledge of Holocaust history. I have traveled to Germany, Poland, Austria, France, and the Czech Republic. I have visited many concentration camps and worked in the historical archives of many of these historical sites. I write curriculum lessons and contribute to two non-profit organizations in which I enjoy serving as a Teacher Ambassador for The Defiant Requiem Foundation in Washington D.C. and The Jewish Foundation for the Righteous which is based out of New Jersey.
I have been married for 19 years to my husband, who works in Nuclear Medicine at both local hospitals. I have three daughters: Mataea (14), Talisa (6), and Elora (4). We love to travel with our girls, because our families live in Texas, North Carolina, and Pennsylvania. I personally enjoy national travel, as well as global travel, so that can I utilize photography, artifacts, and memorabilia as an artwork, as an asset in my classroom, and in my personal research.
I am dedicated to being an effective teacher, while also sharing my love for reading, researching, and life-long learning.
