The Parent Teacher Leadership Academy
The Parent Teacher Leadership Academy: Building Community by Supporting our Children is an initiative of the Division of Community Affairs’ Center for Community-Based Partnerships, the faculty and administrators from the College of Education and the College of Human Environmental Sciences, and has the support of organizations throughout the community. The curriculum of the Parent Leadership Academy embodies a holistic approach for maximizing the leadership potential of parents to collaborate with educators and become active partners in the education of their child and other children in the community. It moves beyond typical activities to help build stronger family-school-community partnerships.
Desired Outcomes
1. Parents/guardians-increased knowledge of school curricula and operations
2. Parents/guardians-appreciation of the challenges facing other parents and schools
3. Increased parental involvement in school
4. Students-increased academic performance and personal growth
5. School and community-increased knowledge of the benefits of parental involvement
6. Community building in the local schools and in the community at-large
