    A little About Me:

    I am a graduate of the University of Alabama. My area of expertise is Early Childhood Special Education. I am a Highly Qualified Teacher and meet all the requirements for teachers as dictated by the NO Child Left Behind Federal Law. I have taught in the following in the following school systems Bessemer, Tuscaloosa City and presently Tuscaloosa County.I enjoy water color painting, and reading children’s books. My favorite children’s author is Arnold Lobel of the Frog and Toad stories. I also walk/run in charitable 5k races, and love European travel.

     
     
    My Philosophy
     
    I believe that every child can learn and I believe the way in which we define learning depends on the individual child. I believe that every child needs to be presented with numerous learning opportunities that will allow them to experience success so that they do not become discouraged. I believe that there is a vast difference between having a disability and being handicapped. And finally I believe that parental involvement and consistent communication between home and school is the glue that holds the learning process together.

    It is my desire to have positive parent /teacher relationships with all my parents. I encourage you to contact me by written note, school e-mail ( aspates@tcss.net) or by phone (205-342-2951) during my planning time. Please allow me one school day to respond. I need your feedback if something is working, I want to know. If something is not working, I want to know that also. If you are having difficulties with homework, school assignments or social issues feel free to ask for help. I am a resource person for you and your child

    From time to time I will send assignments / activities that are to be completed at home.
    These assignments/    activities will be different from the regular classroom teacher’s. My assignments will usually not require more than ten minutes to complete. The assignments/activities will always be things that we have covered in class and will be accompanied with written instructions/ directions for  each assignment. These assignments will reinforce the skills taught in class. I require a parent signature on each assignment / activity to ensure that the assignments are being brought home.
