CHECK-INS & CHECK-OUTS: Students who arrive after 8:00 a.m. are considered late and must check in through the school office. A parent must accompany the student into the office and get an ADMIT slip. Parents who wish to check-out their child must go to the front office.  Only parents or legal guardians may check a student out of school unless school officials are notified in writing that another individual has permission to do so. Any legal custody arrangements which prevent any individual from checking a student out or visiting a student should be forwarded in writing to the principal for inclusion in the student’s permanent record.

ATTENDANCE & ABSENCES: Regular school attendance is necessary for academic success. When a student must be absent from school, the parent is required to send a note explaining the reason for the absence. Teachers are required to report to legal authorities any student who is absent excessively. Regular school attendance is mandated by Alabama State Law and parents held liable when students do not attend school.

ENROLLMENT: Students who enter kindergarten must be five years of age on or before September 1st. Students who enter first grade must be six years of age on or before September 1st. To enroll a student at Crestmont, parents should present the following items when completing registration forms: Online enrollment through Infosnap using the TCSS website -A valid up-to-date Alabama immunization certificate (blue card), Two legal proofs of residency showing that the student resides in the Crestmont school zone, Birth Certificate, and Social Security card ( optional).
(Please bring original documents, no copies.)

WITHDRAWAL OF STUDENTS: Parents are requested to notify the school staff three days before a student’s withdrawal from Crestmont and transfer to another school. School officials will complete a Withdrawal form and provide a copy for parents to take to a new school. Academic records will be sent from Crestmont when the request for records is received from the student’s new school.

LOST & FOUND: Our “lost and found” trees are located in the front hallway.  Students may claim lost items upon identification. In order to prevent lost items, parents are asked to mark or attach names to coats, backpacks, school supplies, etc.

SAFETY DRILLS: FIRE DRILLS will be held on a regular basis to prepare students to exit the building quickly and safely in the event of fire. A series of short bell rings is the signal for a fire drill. SEVERE WEATHER DRILLS will also be held on a regular basis.  A long, continuous bell is the signal for a storm drill. During all safety drills, students must remain quiet and orderly. The cooperation of every student is required to provide safety in emergency situations.

REPORT & PARENT-TEACHER CONFERENCES: Report cards are issued at the end of each nine-week grading period. A midterm progress report will be sent home after the fourth week in the grading period. Parent-teacher conferences may be scheduled at any time by contacting the teacher.

PHYSICAL EDUCATION: Physical education is a part of the Alabama course of study for all elementary students. All students are expected to participate fully in physical education classes unless prohibited by illness and injury. One day’s absence from PE may be granted through written parent permission. A request to restrict student’s participation for more than two days requires a written statement from a physician. Students are asked to wear tennis shoes. They can wear other types of shoes to school but will need to change shoes before PE.

LIBRARY: The books and materials in the Crestmont Library are designed to assist students in their academic work and to promote interest in reading and learning. Students may check-out books from the library and are expected to return the books when they are due. Parents are financially responsible for loss or damage of library materials.

VISITORS: Crestmont welcomes visitors! A security system is in place to ensure the safety of everyone at Crestmont and to protect instructional time. Entrance into the school can only be obtained through the front doors by ringing the doorbell.  School office personnel will grant entrance into the building.  Each visitor must present a valid ID to visit areas of the school.  Their ID will be scanned through the system, RAPTOR, for a badge.

TEXTBOOKS: Textbooks are issued to students during the first weeks of the school year. Textbooks must be returned to the school free of damage and in usable condition at the end of the year or when a student withdraws from Crestmont. Parents are ultimately responsible for payment of lost and damaged textbooks.

STUDENT BEHAVIOR: All students are expected to conduct themselves in an orderly and courteous manner in the classroom, library, cafeteria, and all parts of the school. Good conduct is also expected of students as they travel to and from school. Code of Student Conduct: Published in Tuscaloosa County Schools Parent Teacher Handbook will served as the source of disciplinary actions and expected student behavior. Each classroom teacher will provide more detailed information regarding their classroom discipline procedures.

STUDENT ILLNESS: Every absence, even for a part of the school day, interferes with a student’s academic progress. However, illnesses sometimes prevent school attendance. For the protection of everyone, students are asked not to attend school with the symptoms of a contagious illness. If a student is injured or becomes ill at school, every effort will be made to notify parents and guardians. Please keep the school notified of any changes in phone numbers, employment, or emergency contacts. Also, keep the school informed of medical conditions which affect a student at school.

GUIDANCE COUNSELING: Crestmont Elementary has a full time counselor. The counselor works with small groups, entire classes, and individual students to promote all aspects of social, emotional, and intellectual development. The counselor is available to talk with parents and to suggest community resources available for students and families. Appointments with the counselor may be arranged.

ADOPT-A-SCHOOL: Crestmont is fortunate to participate in the Adopt-A-School program. Crestmont has been adopted by Spiller Furniture and Mattress, Inc. and Neighborhood Walmart- Northport and Northport Funeral and Cremation Services.  Staff members and volunteers visit the school often and sponsor a number of annual activities which directly benefit students and teachers.
