    Bio
I have been teaching in the Tuscaloosa County School System for the past 22 years.  I taught for 11 years at Brookwood Elementary School (in 6th grade, 3rd grade, Kindergarten, and 2nd grade).  I taught for 8 years  (doing the K-1 loop and 2nd grade) at Taylorville Primary School before transferring to our brand new Big Sandy Elementary!  I have my B.A. and Masters in Early Childhood Education from the University of Alabama.  I am also a National Board of Professional Teaching Standards Certified teacher.  I enjoy teaching young children and experiencing the joy they feel as they learn to read and write.  I am married to Mike Hamner and we have four children - Hallie Grace, who is a freshman at Hillcrest High School, Luke, who is a 7th grader at Duncanville Middle School, Eli, who is in 4th grade here at Big Sandy, and our baby girl, Ella Kate, who is five years old and starting "big" school this year in kindergarten at Big Sandy. We also have a sweet doggie, Lucy, who joined our family last Christmas.   I love being a mother and think it really shapes the way I teach my students to have a motherly perspective on things.  Our family loves to go to the beach and Disney World, read, take walks and ride bikes around our neighborhood, and watch Alabama football.  ROLL TIDE!!  We attend church at First Baptist Church, where my husband and I teach 4th grade Sunday School.  This year is my eighth year to teach 2nd grade (after teaching it at Brookwood and TPS) and I LOVE IT!  Second graders are my favorite age to teach - they are so "grown-up" and yet still sweet kids!  I feel very blessed to be a teacher and have the chance to help influence future generations - the leaders of tomorrow! I am so excited to be a part of the Big Sandy family and look forward to many wonderful years of learning to come!
