Description
United States History I: Beginnings to the Industrial Revolution is the first part of a two-course study of U.S. History. This 10th grade course examines the social and political history of the U.S. from pre-historic times to post-Civil War Reconstruction.
Course Objectives
The objectives of this course directly correspond to the Alabama Course of Study: Social Studies.
Required Materials
Three ring binder
Loose leaf paper
Pen (Blue or Black ink only) or Pencils
- Colored Pencils
Personal Electronic Devices
Students can use electronic and technological devices at specified times and only when authorized by the teacher for an instructional purpose. If a student is using a device inappropriately, consequences will be enforced as stated in the Parent-Student Information Guide.
Absence and Make-up work
If a student is absent for any excused reason, the student will be allowed to make up all major assignments and other work missed during said absence at a time agreeable to the teacher. The student shall be responsible for contacting the teacher to arrange to make up the work. Students shall have two (2) days for each day of excused absence to complete and return make-up work. It is the responsibility of the student to request and return make-up work.
**Unexcused Absence will not be allowed to make-up work. Teachers, at their discretion, may require student to make up work on a noncredit basis to help student maintain academic pace.

Semester Exam Exemption Policy
In order to be exempt from a final exam, a 9-12 grade student must have an overall average of
A (90-100) with 6 or fewer absences, or
B (80-89) with 4 or fewer absences, or
C (70-79) with 2 or fewer absences, AND
Have no discipline referrals that result in detention or suspension during the term. The final course grade for students in grades 9-12 who meet exemption criteria will be determined from the average of the four nine-week grading periods for a full credit course.
**Students may ONLY be exempt from the FINAL EXAM at the end of the course. **

Classroom Expectations
- Come to class on time. Any student not in the classroom when the bell rings will be marked tardy, unless student has a pass from another teacher or administration.
- Come to class Prepared. Students will come prepared with all materials for the lesson.
- You must RESPECT yourself, classmates, teacher, and property. Treat others like you want to be treated. You must show appropriate behavior and language in the classroom
- YOU are responsible for any missed assignments. All excused missed assignments will be made up in a timely manner
- No personal electronic devices allowed unless permission has been granted by the teacher.
- PARTICIPATE in class. Non-participation in this course during discussions and activities will negatively affect both your daily and overall grade.
- Go to the restroom BEFORE or AFTER class. Students have multiple opportunities between 8 Periods.
- BE NICE. BE COURTEOUS. CLEAN UP AFTER YOURSELF.

Study Tips
- Attend class and complete all assignments on time.
- Read textbook sections at home the day before they are to be discussed in class
- Email me for assignments when you are absent or call another student
