It is always nice to know a little about the person who gets to spend the days with your child so I thought I would add a bit of information about me here.
I grew up in northwest Alabama in a small town just a little bigger than Samantha. We were about the size of Berry I guess because we had a Piggly Wiggly. I graduated in 1985 from Cherokee Vocational High School. The very same school my parents had graduated from about 20 years before and the school my nieces would graduate from about 20 years later. My family's roots are sunk very deep into Colbert County, but I decided to try my wings a bit and attended University of Alabama in Birmingham for one semester in 1985 but missed my small town and quickly returned home.
At that point I enrolled in what is now Northwest Community College and earned an associate degree in accounting. I worked in the accounting field for about 15 years in small businesses and CPA's offices. I decided that I wanted to return to school to earn my bachelor's degree. I also felt lead to earn this degree in the teach field. I wanted to work in a place where I could feel like I was making a positive difference in the world. I went to the University of North Alabama, in Florence, and earned my Bachelor of Science Degree in Education. I know that I was created to be a teacher. I love knowing that I can make a student's bad day turn around sometimes and help students unlock the potential inside them!
I taught 3rd and 4th grades in the Jasper City School System for seven years. While I was teaching in Jasper I earned my Masters Degree in Elementary Education from the University of West Alabama. Then just last year I taught 4th grade for a year in the Madison County System but again, I found that big city life wasn't for me and spent the summer seeking a position that would allow me to go back to teaching in a smaller school where I could create the relationships with students that are such an important part of teaching for me.
This is my 5th year teaching here at Northside Middle School. A couple of years ago I met a Samantha man and got married. I love living here and being part of the Ram Family!
Although this year will be differnt from years past, I look foward to working with your student and getting to know your family.
Go Rams!
